Eligibility criteria for admission

Admission to this course is open to all those with a Bachelor’s degree in any social science subject/Health/Maths/ Stats or any similar degree recognized by Indian/Foreign universities with 50 percentage marks for general candidates and 45 percent marks for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS and PWD category. Candidates having master’s degrees and also those who are having work experience will be given due weightage. The cutoff percentage can further be reduced by the admission committee for candidates with any additional qualifications. Reservation criteria will be followed as per the Government of India norms.

After successfully completing all academic requirements given in the guidelines, the registered distance learner will be awarded a degree of “M.A. Population Studies” irrespective of any discipline he/she comes from graduate level.

Selection criteria

The selection of candidates for the course will be done by a selection committee duly constituted by the Director of the Institute.

Reservation

Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/ EWS/PWD/ candidates will be considered as per the Government of India norms.

Number of seats

There are 100 seats available for admission to this course. However, the Institute reserves the right to decide number of students to be enrolled in each academic session depending upon number of applications received.

Duration of Course

This course can be completed in a minimum period of two years to maximum period of four years. In case if candidate is not able to complete the course in a given time period, he/she can avail one-year extension after paying Rs.11000/- as extension fee (1250 USD for foreign candidates). Maximum two such subsequent extensions will be permitted to complete the course. If the candidate fails in completing all the formalities even after availing two continuous, he/she will not be eligible for degree and his/her registration will automatically stand cancelled without any intimation. The terms and condition for completing the academic formalities of the course may change after the revision of course curriculum.

Self-instruction courses materials

The self-instructional course study materials will be accessible to all the enrolled students through ‘Moodle’ platform. The credentials will be given to the students to avail the ‘Moodle’ facility. There are 18 papers consisting of foundation, core and optional papers in the course curriculum.

Contact programmes in the Institute

Contact programme of two-weeks duration will be organized at the Institute in June every year for doubt clearing and interaction with the faculty members. During the contact programme, a thorough feedback on the course material sent throughout the year is given in addition to the laboratory exercises related to technical papers, computer applications and preparation of term paper.

Evaluation & Examinations

Written examination is conducted twice in a year (June and December) at the Institute. The written examination is followed by preparation of a Term
Paper proposal and Viva-Voce examination. The evaluation is done by direct Ten Point grading system. In order to qualify the degree, a student is required to write examination for 60 credits apart from the non-credited papers. Overall, there are 18 papers designed for this course.

The Evaluation Process includes primarily two components

I. Written Examinations (80% weightage)

           In order to qualify the degree, a student is required to write examination for 60 credits apart from the non-credited papers. The learners also have to submit final term paper for 10 credits              and appear in Viva Voce for 4 credits.

II. Assignments (20% weightage)

Learners need to submit their assignments through ‘Moodle’ platform to avail the 20% weightage in the final grade. All assignments questions will be uploaded in the ‘Moodle’ platform. However, in case of online examination, the weightage will be 30%.
