Information Communication and Technology Unit

Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) Unit provides an effective and developmental ICT service to faculty, staff, and students of the Institute. The unit manages the information technology infrastructure to provide IT services; the ICT division evaluates and installs the proper hardware and software necessary to keep the network functioning properly. Under the National Knowledge Network project, the Institute has acquired a 1-GBPS internet link from NIC. The IIPS Local Area Network comprises both wired (fibre optic) and wireless (Wi-Fi) networks and connects all computers and mobile devices in the Institute. Students, staff, and faculty have 24*7 internet access on the campus. Unit monitor the network for security breaches, respond to cyber-attacks, keeping organizations safe from malicious digital attacks, implementing and running security software, scanning for abnormalities, upgrading systems Monitor and configure networks to optimize performance, and resolve faults.

Provide help desk services such as hardware/software support to the IIPS staff, Faculty, and Project staff. The Facility maintenance service (FMS) Engineers looking after basic troubleshooting related to monitors, keyboards, printers, and mouse, they install, modify, clean, and repair computer hardware and driver software. Maintain peripheral devices connected to the printer, such as printers and scanners.

The ICT unit is equipped with the latest core i7 or higher generation computers. Moreover, the necessary statistical software, such as IBM SPSS Version 26, STATA Version 16, SAS 9.4, and ArcGIS Pro 2.x,NVIVO required to analyse demographic datasets are installed with a multiuser license. In addition, important software such as MORTPAK, Endnote X7, and ATLAS.ti have also been installed.

The IT department creates, maintains, and updates information on the institute's website & Social media account regularly. The webmaster and professionals in the ICT division design the website's layout, write the programming code, and test its usability.

The unit provides webmail service, enabling its users to access mailbox from anywhere. The unit also provides technical support to the eGovernance (eOffice) application. The Video Conferencing tools viz. Skype, Zoom, Webex (Cisco) technical supports and training to conduct online classes, short-term training programs, workshops, seminars, and other such events online. The Moodle, a learning management system, is also supporting by the unit.

Additionally, the Institute has a robust Data Centre comprising network-attached to the server to enable storing and disseminating demographic datasets. The Data Centre currently has all relevant datasets such as census, various rounds of large-scale surveys conducted by IIPS, which can be directly accessed by IIPS users. Through a web portal, online databases of surveys by IIPS are also disseminated to the registered users.

The ICT unit has one primary computer lab equipped with 48 personal computers and three LCD projectors. Another small lab with 16 personal computers connected via the internet is also available. Courses that require the use of IT-equipment (M.P.S., M.A./M.Sc., M.Phil., and short-term courses) are conducted in these two labs.
