Right to Information

Right to Information

Right to Information (RTI) is an Act of the Indian Parliament enforced from the year 2005, under which any citizen of India may request information from a “public authority” (a body of Government or instrumentality of State). The public authority is required to reply to this request expeditiously or within 30 days. The Act also requires all public authorities to computerize their records for widespread dissemination so that the citizens require minimum recourse to request for information formally. This Act, aiming to promote the transparency and accountability of public authority operations, facilitates citizens to access required information under the control of public authorities. For requesting information, an application must be written to the State Public Information Officer. This application must include the name and address of the applicant and particulars of the required information. A court fee stamp of INR 10 is also required. The format for the application can be obtained here: Annexure “A” (See rule 3), a format of the application for obtaining information under the RTI Act 2005. The Institute complies with this RTI Act through its RTI cell.
